Back in 1933, after departing Dogville, Grace Margaret Mulligan sees a slave being punished in a cotton farm named. Slavery is illegal and Grace stands against the owners of the farm. She attempts to influence the circumstance and stays with some gangsters in Manderlay. Nevertheless when harvest time comes Grace sees Manderlay's financial and societal reality.
