Set in Russia, Allen is actually a cowardly serf drafted into the Napoleonic warfare, who would write poetry and obsess. Allen's cowardice serves him well when he hides in a cannon and is shot into a tent of French soldiers, which makes him a national hero. A parody of Love, Russian literature and Death is a must see for most fans of all Allen's films.
